Getting Married?

After looking for months at unpromising New York City venues, Julian and I took a belated engagement trip to the Amalfi Coast. During a breathtaking sunset in Positano, we saw a couple having their rehearsal dinner on a terrace overlooking the world class views of the Positano coastline. The next day, while having breakfast on our balcony, we saw a bride walking down the quaint cobblestone streets and it clicked! We knew that we wanted a destination wedding. We looked at potential wedding venues there, and narrowed the selection down to the 12 best venues - but, after all, you can only pick one!

RAVELLO

Villa Eva ~ Gorgeous whitewashed villa, renovated to reflect the original, has a beautiful terrace overlooking the sea for ceremonies. Receptions can be hosted on property in a beautiful tent adorned with greenery and glittering lights, or inside in the dining room with beautiful views of the sea.

Hotel Caruso ~ A former 11th century palace on the cliffs of the Amalfi Coast, Hotel Caruso of this hotel makes it seem to drift on a balcony above the Mediterranean Sea. It has 50 guest rooms with sea view, a top cuisine restaurant and an infinity pool. The beautiful gardens and the breathtaking views makes it a perfect setting for both intimate and big weddings.

Villa Cimbrone ~ Prestigious yet charming, the origins of this five-star villa date back to the 11th century, but the villa and the gardens were renovated in the early 20th century. Expansive gardens, dramatic views, a Michelin starred restaurant and the gorgeous villa promise an unforgettable wedding. The grounds provide multiple places to host a gorgeous wedding ceremony, including on the famous terrace, Terrazza dell’Infinito, lined by marble busts that inspired author Gore Vidal to call the "most beautiful place that [he] had ever seen in all [his] travels" and reflect that "the view from the belvedere of the Villa Cimbrone on a bright winter’s day when the sky and the sea were each so vividly blue that it was not possible to tell one from the other." We're sold!

AMALFI

Grand Hotel Il Saraceno ~ Built literally into the cliffs on the site of an ancient 11th century fortress between Positano and Amalfi, this hotel is one of Italy’s crown jewels. Fear not, since the hotel’s been seriously upgraded since the 11th century, and its rooms, basic and suites alike, have unbeatable sea views. The restaurant is adorned with moorish arches and hand painted floor tiles, and allows for a seriously grand affair of up to 200 guests, as well as a private chapel perfect for the ceremony. Prego!

De Cappuccini Restaurant ~  Located within the Convento di Amalfi hotel, the elegant al fresco terrace of the restaurant provides a stunning panorama of Amalfi and the food is world class. Guests will be able to stay onsite at this location, providing the opportunity for an intimate wedding weekend and less headaches for transporting guests.

POSITANO

Villa Oliviero ~ This luxury villa is perfect for a very intimate affair, as it can only accommodate up to 12 overnight guests onsite, but can host exclusive-use weddings of up to 80 guests. Rest assured that those lucky overnight guests will bask in luxury, as the villa offers six en-suite bedrooms, a beautiful garden, swimming pool, outdoor jacuzzi and Turkish bath. We're sure the guests attending a wedding in the huge gardens at this location won't be disappointed, either!

Le Sirenuse ~ We rave about Le Sirenuse in our Amalfi Itinerary, but it is also probably the best place on the Amalfi Coast to have an easygoing, upscale, impossibly chic yet classically Italian wedding.  The hotel has 59 rooms with glamorous white walled interiors, vaulted ceilings, antique furniture and hand made tiles from Vietri, so guests guests can stay on location, and any additional guests will find a host of other beautiful hotel options in Positano, including at the hotel directly across the street (see our Itinerary), Villa Rosa. At Le Sirenuse, the terrazza della piscina is replete with lemon trees and flowers, and the Champagne & Oyster Bar, located on a different terrace, is covered with roses. The reception will be held at the restaurant La Sponda, with green foliage stretching up its white pillars onto the arches of the vaulted ceiling, illuminated by the romantic light of 400 glowing candles casting their reflections off the gold and green tiled floor.  Lemon trees divide the tables and the glittering lights of the village partially illuminate the candle-lit interior. Dinner on regular nights is enjoyed to the tune of soft mandolin music in the background, which can be incorporated into any wedding evening. Behind glass windows in the restaurant, chefs are visibly preparing dishes in a kitchen decorated with handmade tiles and copper pots. After the reception, for the cocktail hour, or for a welcome or farewell happy hour, guests can mingle at Franco's. Don't take our word for it! SORRENTO

Grand Hotel Capodimonte ~ A beautiful upscale hotel with a wisteria-draped al fresco dining room aside tiered infinity pools as one of several options for a reception location, this venue is built into the rocky cliffs and overlooks the town and Sea. Any wedding here is sure to be as fantastic as this spectacular venue.

Relais Blu Modern ~ The name says it all! The chic and minimalist blue and white decor of this hotel in Termini, just outside of Sorrento, blends into the spectacular views of the infinite ocean, islands of Ischia and Procida, and sky. One option for hosting your ceremony is in a fairytale-like park flooded with olive and pine trees.

Villa Angelina ~ It doesn't get better than this opulent and elegantly renovated Victorian mansion villa in Massa Lumbrese. Couples can host the ceremony and/or reception on a landscaped garden pier jutting directly out into the Gulf, with views of Capri, Ischia and Vesuvius. Formerly a private residence, guests can stay in rooms directly on property, which promises an unforgettable wedding weekend.

CAPRI

Capri Palace ~ Those looking for a chic, but more traditionally upscale hotel wedding venue should opt for the Capri Palace, located in Anacapri (see our Itinerary for more info!) and awash with classic white masonry, elegant arches, vaulted ceilings, columns, and white and gold decor. Wedding decor is typically traditional, with classic white slipcovered chairs and white tablecloths, resulting in a clean elegance.

Restaurant lo Scoglio delle Sirene ~ This restaurant venue screams casual-chic beach wedding vibes. Located on the rocky outpost with views of Capri's iconic dramatic rock formations, the Faraglioni, the wedding and reception will take place on a rocky outcropping that is practically in the water, for a vibe that is more "bathing suits optional" than "black tie optional"!
